Hi Alex,
I listened to the first of the Temeraire books as an audio book based on your recommendation in GS 92…wow, I loved it so much.
I wasn’t at all sure when I discovered what the theme is, but as I listened I was completely drawn in. There’s so much going on below the surface of “action/adventure” and (is it just me?) it began to feel subversive; the way the dragons seem to change the way their “handlers” think and behave…for example, I missed the exact point at which Lawrence starts to refer to Temeraire as “my dear”, instead it crept up on me, and when I did realise, it sort of flipped me out and changed the whole way I was thinking about the book. Awesome.
Anyway, thanks for recommending it…
And, Alistair Reynolds as well…my first: “House of Suns”……:-)
Cheers
Chris
