FarScape Rewatch: s1, e10

Farscape rewatchSeason One, Episode Ten: They’ve Got a Secret

Peacekeeper issues are still on board as fits with the plot when it suits. It may have infected D’Argo, who is then hurled out of an airlock. All in a day’s work when you’re on Moya.

K: I wonder how this conversation started – ‘John, come here, I need a ladder I can order about?’

A: Oh I HOPE so. Plus, D’Argo is a right little whinger. “Wah, I’m doing droid work!”

K: And I wonder if Pilot can regenerate just so it’s easier to have his puppets back to normal after the last episode…

A: what, you don’t think it’s narrative-driven?! Continue reading →

Season One, Episode Nine: DNA Mad Scientist

A scientist promises a way home for the lost wayfarers, but of course all is not as it appears. Friction results within our merry band…

A: EW NEEDLES IN EYES gross.

Season One, Episode Eight: That Old Black Magic

Whilst in a marketplace on a planet, Crichton gets tricked away by some old wizard guy for his own sick and twisted games. Which, in turn, show that more people than we think can be sick and twisted also.

K: Rygel needs medication? Ah well, life comes and goes. Bring back the cute bird instead.

A: And John’s in his old space suit!

AHAHA Rygel has man-flu and Crichton is grossed out by the idea of raw brains. Continue reading →

Season One, Episode Six, Thank God It’s Friday Again!

Summary: In which D’Argo turns from super angry to super hippie, Crichton gets beaten up (again), Aeryn discovers more and more about herself, and Rygel is actually kind of helpful?

K: D’Argo seems a bit cross about something. So it seems Luxons have a thing called hyper rage and Crichton is right in his firing line as he’s another male and therefore competition, I assume?

A: dangerous stuff. Also, Rygel looks disturbingly excited about D’Argo having killed someone.

K: Mad Max reference, and now we’re in a scene from the second Matrix. Though this probably came out before that?

A: “No one saw the third one” – ? I thought Thunderdome was more popular than the second! And ha, alien orgy scene. Awesome.
And D’Argo is now… stoned? And happy to see Crichton? Must be stoned.

Galactic Suburbia spoilerific

Alisa came to visit me a few weeks ago. We found a French science fiction mini series on SBS On Demand and we watched the entire thing, and then we had to record a special episode of Galactic Suburbia to try and hash out what exactly it was that we had just watched. You can listen to it over at Galactic Suburbia or on iTunes.

Warning: it’s entirely spoiler-filled… although I think you could still enjoy the show even after listening to us. But there’s not a screaming hurry, as it’s on the SBS site until the middle of 2017!

Farscape episode 4

Season One, Episode Four: Throne for a Loss

Summary: A plan goes wrong and Crichton, Aeryn and D’Argo all have to go rescue the little twerp, Rygel. What a surprise.

K: I do like how to a certain aspect Aeryn lets John waffle on and doesn’t tell him to shut up. And almost tries to understand him half the time.

A: I think John’s habit of just repeating Earth references as if a greater number of exemplar will help an alien understand, for example, Clint Eastwood, is embarrassing and ludicrous.

So Moya is Serenity now? Hauling cargo?

K: Big damn heroes!

A: Big. Damn. Heroes. Continue reading →

Season One, Episode Three: Exodus from Genesis

Summary

What appears to be a beautiful shimmering golden cloud out in space turns out to contain nasty creepy-crawlies who need to spawn, and in doing so, take over the ship aggressively.

As though that’s not difficult enough, Peacekeepers catch up with our merry crew once again…

A: Rygel, your hubris knows no bounds.

K: I do want a hover chair though. And they do really do excellent things with the animatronics.

A: Ah, more Alien Craziness! This time, Freaky Worms for Cleaning Your Teeth. Continue reading →

Farscape: S1, e2

Farscape rewatchSeason One, Episode Two: I, ET

In the previous episode they removed Moya’s control collar – unlike other tv shows, this has some continuity where it seems like that’s only caused more problems. The removal has activated a homing signal which means Peacekeepers could be tracking them down at any moment. Although Leviathans are not known for being able to land and take off from planets, the crew risk it, and bury Moya in a bog. They then need to search for something that can dull Moya’s pain as they rip more Peacekeeper tech from her.

A: John has an excellent line in eye-facial-winky-crinkliness while the Peacekeeper alarm is going and MAN they could have turned it off faster! I love that Aeryn comments on the facial shenanigans, too, plus “I’m new to all this escaped prisoner crap” ahaha.

K: How scary would that be though – on the run, somewhere in space, at the mercy of the ship itself who is also under attack. I’d be freaking out!

A: Oh absolutely – for John – but not our Aeryn, nuhuh. Continue reading →

Season One, Episode One: Through the Eye of the Needle

In which John Crichton, scientist and astronaut, somehow finds himself flung to a weird corner of the universe and meets a whole bunch of aliens. He has some trouble adapting and manages to score himself a nemesis.

K: Drat I thought that this opened in Australia, but him talking to those people and then seeing them later in Canaveral makes me think nope, Florida. Dammit. So the start isn’t nearly as interesting to me at all then :p

A: yeh, definitely America. I love Dad. I also love the idea of going into space being a relatively straightforward event – it’s the experiment that’s weird, not the launch.

The opening music is SO WEIRD. I actually don’t love it – I find it too discordant, and almost distressing. It also doesn’t really fit the show, in my mind. Continue reading →
